Butlins was created by Billy Butlin who opened a leisure shelter in 1932 on the seafront of Bognor Regis. Originally, the centre included a zoo with many animals including bears, polar bears, hyenas, leopards, pelicans, kangaroos, monkeys and snakes! In 1960, Billy Butlin had permission to open a holiday camp for tourists, on the current site (his early premises were on the seafront nearer to the Pier).
Many people have holidayed at Butlins since it opened and it is still a popular holiday resort today! It now includes many more attractions including: themed restaurants, a large indoor swimming pool with flumes; a fairground, live shows and of course, the famous Red Coat entertainers!
Butlins Bognor Regis was one of the three original camps under the Butlins brand.
