Originally, the Picturedrome was built in 1886 and was used as a community assembly room where local people would go for various functions and entertainment. During the First World War (1914-1918), it was used as a drill hall where people would practice different scenarios that could have taken place during the war. It wasn’t until 1919, that the building was named the Picturedrome and finally became a cinema.
